Poetica Christi Press
Poetica Christi Press (PCP) is an independent, non-profit publishing house. The aim of PCP is to publish Australian poetry of the highest standard, particularly work with a Christian ethos that can be accessed by both poets and non-poets.
PCP publications, in the form of books, cards and bookmarks are designed to challenge, evoke wonder, encourage and minister to its readers.
The vision of PCP is to build an appreciation and awareness of poetry both within and outside Christian circles, believing it to be a valuable gift for use in the church and wider community.
PCP commenced in 1990 as the publishing arm of the Wordsmiths of Melbourne poetry group. It has since published over 40 books, including 20 anthologies and 24 individual author’s works. Some of its ventures include children’s books and a lavish coffee-table book about Melbourne, which includes artworks and photographs alongside poetry.
Each year PCP hosts its annual Poetry Competition, resulting in an anthology which includes the winners’ poems alongside those of the Wordsmiths. Two of these anthologies have been commended in the Fellowship of Australian Writers Awards for Community Writing and Taking Flight was awarded best poetry book in the CALEB awards for faith-inspired writing. Two Edged by Janette Fernando and Trumped by Grace by Peter Stiles were short-listed for the Australian Christian Book of the Year Award. Anthologies Everyday Splendour, Exploring the depths and Reflecting on Melbourne were all shortlisted for the CALEB prize for faith-inspired writing, as was Graeme Leo’s Just Glimpses really. Circumnavigation by Cathy Altmann won the FAW Anne Elder award for a first book of poetry.
